ERROR: Writing label: tape is write-protected

Issue Symptoms

ERROR taper no-tape [No writable valid tape found]
WARNING taper writing label: tape is write protected

Resolution

1. Please check the permissions on the the tape device. These are the correct permissions:

[root@bugs dev]# ls -al /dev/nst0
crw-rw---- 1 root disk 9, 128 Jan 12 01:59 /dev/nst0

2. Make sure that the “amandabackup” user belongs to the “disk” group.

[root@bugs dev]# grep disk /etc/group
disk:x:6:root,amandabackup
