How Zmanda windows server
backup benefits you

Easy and secure

Zmanda can easily backup mapped drives on Windows Servers and during the recovery process - change the restoration location if needed.

Point-in-time recovery

Zmanda uses Microsoft's Volume Shadow Service (VSS) to capture a consistent copy of selected Windows applications such as Exchange and Oracle.

FAQs

Windows Server is a line of operating systems that Microsoft creates explicitly for use on a server. Thus Windows Server is mainly used in business settings.

An interesting note - Windows Server releases correspond to a consumer version of Windows. Windows Server 2003, for instance, is the server version of Windows XP. Because Windows Server and Consumer Windows share a codebase, you can perform many of the same functions on both, such as installing programs from .exe files, etc.

But Windows Server diversifies from its Consumer Codebase through Active Directory, Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), File Storage formats, and other server-heavy workflows.

Ransomware attacks have become highly targeted, and ransomware payments crossed 1 Billion dollars in 2016. As enterprise teams work on business-critical workloads, Zmanda helps ensure business data doesn't get pawned for a ransom.

We create a seamless backup and restore technology, enabling enterprises to backup systems and servers efficiently and reliably. Zmanda also integrates with hybrid cloud environments enabling long-term on-prem vaulting through tape backups.

We currently support Microsoft Windows Server 2019, 2016, 2012 R2, 2012, 2008 R2, 2008, 2003. For a more detailed list of the supported OS, please refer to our Compatibility Matrix.

Zmanda does not add any latency during the recovery process. The limitations during the recovery run if any — come from the network switches being used. Restore processes can be routed to the same server or even to a different server/client systems. Zmanda is lightweight and enterprises can be up and running with this Windows server backup tool in under a day.

Windows Server Backup, the built-in backup feature in Windows Server operating systems, is not deprecated and continues to be supported by Microsoft. It remains the primary Windows Server backup tool provided by Microsoft for server environments. Introduced in Windows Server 2008 as a replacement for NTBackup, it has been the mainstay for basic backup and recovery tasks on Windows Servers.

However, starting with Windows 8, the traditional Backup and Restore feature was deprecated on client versions of Windows in favor of the new File History feature. This change does not affect Windows Server Backup on server operating systems.

While Windows Server Backup provides essential backup capabilities, it may lack the advanced features required by modern enterprises. For more robust and flexible solutions, organizations often turn to third-party backup software for Windows Server, like Zmanda. Zmanda's backup software for Windows Server offers enhanced functionality, including cross-platform support, centralized management, and integration with cloud and hybrid environments, making it a superior alternative to the native backup tool.
