Drive not ready after 120 seconds, rewind said “/dev/nst0: Input/output error”

Issue Symptoms

ERROR taper no-tape [No writable valid tape found]
WARNING taper slot 9: read label `dailyset1-309', date `20070519040001'
WARNING taper cannot overwrite active tape dailyset1-309
WARNING taper fatal changer error: slot 10: Drive not ready after 120 seconds, rewind said "/dev/nst0: Input/output error"
WARNING taper changer problem: Drive not ready after 120 seconds, rewind said "/dev/nst0: Input/output error"

Issue Description

Amanda is not able to rewind the tape.

Resolution

Use mt command to test if the drive is usable via the OS. Pay attention to the Status of the drive to determine what is causing the problem. 

1. mt -f /dev/nst0 rewind
2. mt -f /dev/nst0 fsf 1
3. mt -f /dev/nst0 status
