I am seeing high memory usage while restoring files using ZMC on Solaris/Opensolaris

This article is for Amanda Enterprise (AE)

Info Description:

By default Amanda uses /tmp directory as a temporary directory during restoration and ZMC operations.

In Solaris 10/OpenSolaris /tmp directory uses tmpfs. Tmpfs is a memory based file system for Solaris platforms, hence when /tmp file system gradually fills up which appears to consume lots of memory.

Solution:  There are two solutions possible.

  • Mount /tmp to a filesystem having enough space.
  • In ZMC Restore Where page, change the value of the Temporary Directory , pointing to a file system having enough space on the Destination Host (Host where you are restoring data to).  The default value for Temporary Directory is /tmp.
