Zmanda has signed a data protection and backup agreement with one of the world’s largest library solution providers, a non-profit that provides technology services that allow libraries to connect with communities at scale.

Managing and protecting data that includes public, academic, and research libraries, as well as the systems that serve them, requires a robust, hybrid approach. Being non-profit means value is also a key requirement. We at Zmanda are proud to meet these requirements and help be part of bringing libraries across the globe into the digital age.

Zmanda is built to protect globally distributed data, backing it up to cloud and on-premise targets. For companies managing a high quantity of media data, on-premise targets such as tape provide a highly cost-effective solution to back up and archive.

Tape backup expertise has been a core Zmanda strength for years and continues to be a focus area into the future. Our tape features include:

Compression & Encryption

Your organization’s data is fully encrypted to meet security standards. It is also compressed to minimize storage costs.

Tape Labelling

Zmanda uses labels to manage multiple tape stacks. Based on the backup retention policy for a specific label, the old backup image gets deleted, and the backup server can then reuse that tape for new backups.

Tape Changers

For large-scale backups, Zmanda supports tape changers that write to multiple tapes in a single run. Backups from numerous clients can also be mounted on an available tape or even span multiple tape targets.

Data Formats

Zmanda does not use proprietary tools and data layouts when backing up your data. It uses industry-standard formats such as TAR, ZIP, and STAR. This eliminates vendor lock-in and makes recovery simple.
