VMware Backups using Zmanda Backup Software

Recently Zmanda announced new version of Zmanda VMware Backup Client. This client further optimizes backups of live VMs running on VMware infrastructure. In this webinar, we will discuss the top considerations while backing up VMs, and how Zmanda VMware Client addresses them. We will also talk about new features in VMware Backup: Block level differential backups and reduced size of VM backups. Amanda Enterprise supports filesystem and application backups within VMs as well as image-based, snapshot backups of whole VMs. We will cover advantages and tradeoffs of each approach.

ESG found that 80% of research respondents back up to disk storage platforms at some point in the backup process. To satisfy disaster recovery (DR) requirements, 82% of respondents send a copy of data off site. With the rise of backup to disk approaches, respondents are now looking to non-tape media transport methods — namely, replication between local and off-site disk and the use of third-party cloud storage. Based on recent research, ESG expects to see a shift in the next two years in the use of physical tape media (a decrease of 34%) to "electronic vaulting" to third-party Cloud storage (increase of 31%).
